Description
This is a special precision laser cut & engraved version of my hand-cut 40mm thick solid oak “Guillemot with Egg (Art Puzzle)” (see https://michaelautumn.wordpress.com/2020/03/01/guillemot-with-egg-art-puzzle/) because hand-cutting the latter took far too long and caused serious RSI and/or rheumatoid arthritis in my hands/fingers.
The design uses multiple lasering and layering techniques – cut-throughs, scoring, light scoring, engraving, deep engraving – which all have to be done in a specific sequence. For example, in places in the design, I have score marks on top of some deep engraved areas – so obviously the deep engraving has to be done before the scoring.
The limited editions are all individually signed and numbered with a pyrography pen and come with highly respected, secure and verifiable Hahnemühle Certificates of Authenticity and are publicly trackable here – https://www.hahnemuehle.com/en/digital-fineart/my-art-registry/preview/14596.html
Every effort has been made, and no expense has been spared, to protect and preserve the artwork – including a specially designed museum-standard frame to best present both front and back and the sides of the framed art puzzle (see main photo and see here for details https://michaelautumn.wordpress.com/2024/05/20/a-proposal-for-the-museum-fatg-level-1-framing-of-wooden-puzzles-and-other-thin-flat-2-5d-artefacts-by-michael-autumn/).
The option on “Cutting” below relates to whether you want an actual art puzzle – i.e. cut up into 314 pieces – or uncut – and left as a single piece of engraved panel. The latter looks almost identical to the art puzzle, made exactly the same, except the cutting power of the laser is reduced enough to just do a deep score a line – rather than cut all the way through the wood panel. The engraved panel is aimed at people whole like the design but don’t want to use it as a puzzle. I added this option as a result of feedback received. This has no bearing on the number in the edition – they are considered equal in terms of the edition.
Just to give you an artist’s insight into this piece, a video of me talking about a very similar artwork to this (“Golden Plover with Egg (Art Puzzle) – Laser”) and the making of it can be seen on YouTube – https://youtu.be/6tEkUPruOFo – with the main difference being this one takes twice as long to laser.
