I’m an artist, and I’ve long toyed with the idea of designing and making jewellery. While designing a very colourful, hand-made, faux “stained glass” artwork (see https://youtu.be/vUqEbPohVU8 – which is based on a favourite solid oak artwork of mine – entitled “Long-eared Owl (Art Puzzle) (You are What You Eat)” – see https://michaelautumn.wordpress.com/2023/05/03/long-eared-owl-art-puzzle-you-are-what-you-eat/) – the thought came to me that many of the individual pieces of the art puzzle could make lovely pieces of costume jewellery…
I use the phrase, “stained glass”, because that is what I completely intentionally intend it to look like – but it’s actually made of beautiful, crystal clear, 5mm thick, cast acrylic. It’s very smooth to the touch, is much safer (won’t cut you) and stronger than glass; and can be cut considerably more precisely. It has been hand-drawn by me, laser cut and engraved (by me) – to get the polished smooth edges, details and precision I wanted; and the pieces have been hand-painted by me using permanent transparent glass paints – to give the effect of beautiful transparent stained glass. The special glass paint gives a lovely relief, hand-finished, polished, effect- and the light shines through and reflects in a lovely varied, changeable, way – like real coloured glass.
This is literally a piece of a larger piece of art, which is why each piece has my hand-engraved monogram. (I can supply these without my monogram if you prefer, but then it’s obviously not a signed piece of my art… I can also put any initials/name you choose.) This transparent hand-painted acrylic art puzzle piece is taken directly from the original “stained glass” artwork – with simple beautiful jewellery hardware fitted (by me). So, if there are other fixings you would prefer (e.g. because of allergies), or if you would prefer a different translucent colour, please don’t hesitate to ask.
The jewellery hardware is as follows: high-quality copper, durable and rust-proof pinch bails, Stiring silver 925 locking jump ring, Stiring silver 925 hypoallergenic leverback earring hooks.
I try to be as eco-friendly as possible. The 5mm clear cast acrylic is recycled, the packaging is recycled and recyclable. Each earring weighs only 7g.
